Architecture

At Marner and Marner, we design homes by first exploring their context both current and historical. Our approach is to design with a vision of sustainability, and to communicate a sense of creativity and engagement with the process leading to greater satisfaction with the finished product.

Passive House Design

A well designed building engages “passively” with its site to optimize energy use and comfort. A building designed by Passive House principles is highly insulated and air-tight. By carefully considering climate, solar orientation, and building materials, a balance can be achieved between keeping windows large and numerous enough to maximize light, views and the energy required for heating and cooling.

Interiors

Where we differentiate our interior design from many others is in our understanding of requirements to create a plan for enjoyment of a beautiful, holistic, and well-designed space. Through this understanding, our approach emerges with a meaning that satisfies our clients — often in ways they had not imagined.

Sustainability

We use resources from an amazing array of new and emerging materials and technologies. Our commitment to social and ecological responsibility requires thoughtful work with our client’s to realize maximum returns from sustainable energy sources. We focus on the ten concepts of the WELL Building Institute: air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind, and community.

Preservation

We are architects committed to the future by sourcing alternative energy methods, and by using materials with attention to aesthetics, health, sustainability, and environmental impact. We create Passive House retrofits for those seeking to improve the comfort and efficiency of their home, without disturbing the character of the house, and without starting from scratch.

Project Management

Our design process is to create a plan with our clients, and the design and construction team, that ensures our clients’ vision and goals. We take pride in organizing the site search, planning, design, and construction, while making sure they deliver design and quality, on budget, and on time.

Master Planning

When a project needs to be designed as a whole solution that fits together in pieces whether by funding, timing or both, we bring forward the discipline of guiding our clients through a larger picture process in order to arrive at a sensible and workable rationale on where to begin.

What is Net-Zero Architecture?

Net zero energy homes produce as much energy as they consume over the course of a year. There are several ways that energy can be generated onsite to power the home, but the most common is through the use of solar photovoltaic panels.
