House in North Stamford
2400 SF • Passive House
This new home is designed to be energy saving, healthy, and lower cost compared to the average home price in the area. It has 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths all en-suite. The central space of the house is a double height living space open to a garden patio for three-season enjoyment. Other features include a dining room convertible to a media room, home offices, and a work-out studio/painter’s studio above a garage.
Energy Saving
The design incorporates Passive house principles which include a high degree of insulation and air-tight. Using a heat pump to recover energy, the average annual energy cost without solar panels would be about $2,200. That could be reduced to zero if solar panels were added but the payback would not be justified.
Healthy
We have used WELL standards to control the indoor air quality and refine water quality within the house. This means that you breathe 100% fresh air all day long. The water quality is constantly assessed to screen out contaminants at a high level. The south facing living space has sliding glass doors that allow an easy transition to indoor/outdoor living.
Low Cost
The house measures 2,400 square feet. For a three-bedroom house that is compact yet the architecture feels spacious because all room face on to the large double-height living space. Although the lumber required to frame a highly insulated house costs more that the typical house, this is offset by the much lower cost of the mechanical equipment which is not as large in a highly insulated house and there is a long term monthly savings on the cost of energy to heat and cool the house.
This house of the future presents a compelling case for ownership now and it can be customized to suit individual preferences.
