Compact House, CT
1200 SF • Passive House
This new home like our other recent designs now completes a set of three houses, small, medium, large in floor area that create a range in construction cost while maintaining the same number of bedrooms. We do this by creating floor plans that vary in spaciousness.
We hope that the range in size and cost will present options for potential owners without compromising the basic healthy green building design, universal to all three. Each home is designed to Passive House and WELL standards. (See our blog in the Passive House section of the website for a deeper dive.)
The set of three houses includes this one, Compact House, at 1,200 SF (“small”); Den Road Residence at 2,000 SF (“medium”), and House in North Stamford, at 2,400 SF (“large”). They have in common three bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, and ancillary support spaces. Both the 1,200 SF house and the 2,400 SF house have optional garage space with a potential studio/workout space or independent apartment on the second level of the garage. This is so the investment in building this component creates an income stream in return.
Since house construction costs vary by the size in square feet the low end of the cost range, small, is designed to be competitive with the cost of the average new home in Connecticut after you include the savings in energy from the Passive House design. Large is designed to be more spacious yet still energy efficient, healthy, and green.
